The Swim Team Socials are awesome nights out and throughout the course of the year you WILL attend a wide variety of them! These range from a quiet pre-BUCS motivational curry to a team night out in the city.
UoM has some fantastic AU and Why not Wednesday nights in the Students Union and 256 in Fallowfield this year. There are usually themes as you can see from all our photos from cavemen to crocodiles!
We encourage the integration of both Competitive and Recreational squads to go on the same socials to meet as many people and obviously have the best nights out!
The swimming club is well known for enjoying a good curry every now and again. Throughout the year, you’ll find yourself going along to the Curry Mile for a number of occasions, including our famed ‘Club Awards’. These are held at the end of the year to commend everyone’s achievements, both in AND out of the pool. Everyone is guaranteed to win something that way...!
We host an event called Quest for the Crest once a year in Manchester. We invite various teams from other universities and we give some of the University of Manchester's former students a chance to show us that they’ve “still got it”. Surprisingly, you might think, the event ends with a curry and a night out with the other teams.
The main events of the year are the national BUCS Championships in Sheffield (you can see our recent results from these championships on the club achievements page). Although BUCS is about fast swimming and winning, we also like to enjoy ourselves... This is why the Friday & Saturday nights out are GUARANTEED to be some of the best nights you’ll have all year. There are no excuses at BUCS where we expect people’s effort in the pool to match that on the night out!
The AU Awards night is a little more serious (although the free alcohol gets rid of that pretty quick!) and commends athletes’ achievements from all sports throughout the year. This is a black tie event where you’ll enjoy a three-course meal and of course, some wine will be included. Athletes will accept their sporting and committee colours, and prestigious awards are given out of which the swimming club receive a fair few of! This is a thoroughly enjoyable night and one that usually carries on to another venue into quite early (or late) the following morning.
