MANCHESTER WIN U.A.U. CHAMPIONSHIPS
J. C. P. Besford (Manchester), a former holder of the world's 400 metres back-stroke record, won four events at the Universities A.U. swimming championships at Manchester on Saturday. He won the 440 yards and 220 yards free style races, the 100 yards back-stroke race, and was also placed first in the plain diving championship.
M. Aley Eddine (London) won the 50 yards free-style race and was second in the 220 yards free-style event. J. Gradon (Manchester) set up a new U.A.A. 200 yards breast-stroke record of 2min. 46 4-5sec.
The team championship was won by Manchester with 54 points, London, the holders, being runners-up with 38, and Liverpool third with 16.
